4 Materials Used in Making Venetian Blinds

These days, the term “Venetian Blinds” refers more to a style of blind than an actual blind type. You see, when they were first developed, the Venetian style of blind used materials like cloth and wood, laid horizontally and threaded with some string that you could pull to open or close the blinds as needed. Today, Venetian blinds are among the most popular type of window shade, probably because they are practical and effective—and typically quite inexpensive—though they are now made out of a wide variety of materials.

With that in mind, then, here are some of the most common types of materials used in making Store Urbain “Venetian” blinds.

WOODEN BLINDS

Again, “Venetian blinds” are more of a style than a material but, typically, wood is among the most commonly regarded materials when one thinks of this style of window shade.  But since wooden blinds can cost a little more than others (synthetic fabrics come to mind) the wooden style is not quite as popular.  Still, the cost is often worth the investment as this style offers a little more “old-world” charm than metal or other textiles.  At the same time, wood is a little bit more complicated to maintain, as wood is easily affected by heat, sunlight, and humidity.

FAUX WOOD BLINDS

Of course, we can now use faux wood blinds to achieve similar aesthetic goals with fewer concerns over maintenance. Also known as “composite wood” (which can be similar to some of the types of woods used in hardwood flooring and in furniture making, etc), faux wood often contains a combination of real wood or wood components as well as synthetic plastic materials like PVC.

METAL BLINDS

Typically made out of aluminum, metal blinds are most known for how sturdy they are.  Since they are made from metals like aluminum, they typically do not rust but are also still pretty affordable.  Most of the time, when you think of metal blinds, you are going to think of them in the Venetian blind style, horizontally.

PLASTIC BLINDS

Now, you can also get some blinds that are made out of plastic.  These are also popular because they are affordable and a little easier to maintain than wood. As synthetic materials, they can be quite strong and very resistant to normal wear and tear, even in extreme weather (if used externally, for example); but plastic blinds over have the distinct advantage of availability in a wide variety of colors.
